August TBR!

BeFunky_Aug14TBR.jpg

Hey Guys!
Welcome to this month’s TBR. I don’t tend to pick out much at the beginning of the month, because I just tend to read what I want to, but I like to set a few things 🙂

So this month’s TBR consists of
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare
Rapture by Lauren Kate

The first 3 books I’m reading this month are in preparation for starting Sixth Form next month (Eek!). But both Rapture and Clockwork Princess are series that I need to finish – Rapture in particular, I’ve meant to read that 2 years ago!

So, leave a comment and tell me what you’re reading!
Happy Reading!

July Wrap up!

JulyWU14

Welcome to my July wrap up! This month started (dreadfully) slow, but I finally picked up at the end of the month! So in this post I’ll be briefly discussing each book, and giving each book a rating out of 5 stars! Enjoy!

1 – When God was a Rabbit by Sarah Winman
I read the last half of this book in July. Overall, I loved the story. It told the story of a girl and her brother, and how they lived and got past various obstacles. I really enjoyed the connection between Elly and Joe and how even when everything went wrong, they were still there for each other. I gave When God was a Rabbit 4 stars 🙂

2 – Maggot Moon by Sally Gardner
I read this book whilst visiting my Grandparents, and I could not put it down! It follows a young buy called Standish and how he copes living in a dictatorship. Whilst he was also imprisoned. Yeah! I adored the story and immediately feel in love with Standish and his Grandfather. And the ships came true!!! Overall this book carried a strong message about power and control, and more specifically, if you work together anything can happen. I gave Maggot Moon 5 stars 🙂

3 – The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
For me this was a re-read. My third to be precise! It’s the first book in the Chaos Walking trilogy and it’s also perfect. It’s set on another planet, where the protagonist Todd Hewitt, is the only boy. He turns 13 in a month or so, and becomes a man. Even more interestingly, this world has a twist. A twist called Noise. The native creatures that live on this planet released a germ in a war against the settlers. This germ proceeded to kill all the women and introduce noise to the men’s lives. What is noise? This germ that was released meant that you could hear the thoughts of the men,and was named noise. So, what happens when Todd finds a space of silence in the swamp?
This trilogy is my favorite trilogy of all time (Tied with Divergent), so obviously it got 5 stars 🙂 But I seriously cannot recommend this trilogy enough – Read it!!!

4 – 1984 by George Orwell
Wow. That’s really all I have to say about this book. That and it will change your entire perspective on everything. It is that good. It’s about a man called Winston who is living in a dictatorship, and it’s really how he survives it. I don’t want to go into too much detail but seriously, just read it! I gave 1984 5 stars 🙂

5 – The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket
This is the first book in a series of unfortunate events and it is awesome! It is a children’s book, but written so well it’s appropriate for any audience. It follows 3 children, Violet, Klaus and Sunny, and what happens after their parents perish in a fire. It’s so cleverly written and completely un-put-down-able! I gave The Bad Beginning 4 stars 🙂

6 – Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick
I really enjoyed reading Crescendo! I didn’t think I’d like it as much as I did, because it was a second book, but it was great! I love how we had some relationship drama, which really added to Nora and Patch’s relationship. Not to mention the plot twist at the end. Oh my God! I gave Crescendo 4 stars 🙂

7 – Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick
I started reading Silence straight after Crescendo, and whilst I loved the book, I found the beginning to be slightly frustrating. However, the plot moved forward quickly, the god awful ‘You’re better off without me’ didn’t happen and it got crazy interesting, crazy fast! I gave silence 4 stars 🙂

8 – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J. K. Rowling
This book is awesome. I didn’t jump onto the Harry Potter bandwagon until this month, but I really wish I did it earlier! The book is beautiful, the characters are awesome, the world is masterly crafted. I loved it! I gave it 5 stars 🙂

9 – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
This series just gets better and better. Had me unable to put the book down.I gave it 5 stars 🙂

10 – Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick
Oh boy did this book hurt. After the crazy plot twist in Silence, I was so excited to read this book. It did not let me down. I could put this book down, it literally kept me up till 2 for 2 nights running! And it was certainly one hell of a finale! The book was so well built up to the war, it had me on the edge of my seat and when it got there – wow. I literally cried from the feathers scene till the end. It hurt – it was worth it, but it hurt! I’m now going to stop talking before I start crying again (Damn book hangovers!). I gave Finale 5 stars 🙂

And that was everything I read in July! I’m hoping to get a August TBR up soon, but a quick hint – it will have Rapture and Clockwork Princess in it! Until then – Happy Reading!

The A To Z Bookish Survey

Hi there!

Welcome to my blog! As this is my first post, I wanted to do something simple. So lets do this! The tag is originally by Perpetual Page Turner, http://www.perpetualpageturner.com/2013/08/some-friday-fun.html

So lets go!

Author you’ve read the most books from!
The one and only Jacqueline Wilson. I’ve read like, 20 of her books! She was the person who made me fall in love with reading.

Best sequel ever!
Either Insurgent or The Ask and the Answer. Although The Mortal Instruments just got better as it went along.

Currently reading!
Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick. I’ve almost finished and I’m not ready to say goodbye to this series! I mean Patch 🙂 I adore Patch.

Drink of choice while reading!
Coffee, Peppermint Tea or Water. When it comes to beverages I’m highly uninteresting!

E-reader or physical book!
Nothing can ever replace physical books. Ever.
My heart will forever belong to real books!

Fictional character you probably would have actually dated in high school!
Charlie from Perks of Being A Wallflower.

Glad you gave this book a chance!
Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. That’ll teach me not to judge by covers!

Hidden gem book!
The Foreshadowing by Marcus Sedgwick. Fantastic book, fantastic author!

Important moment in your reading life!
Reading The Cat Mummy by Jacqueline Wilson.I literally hated reading until I read this book. I owe Jackie so much 🙂

Longest book you’ve ever read!
City of Heavenly Fire. I haven’t read that many long books really!

Major book hangover because of!
Allegiant. For 3 days every time I saw I started crying again. My heart still hasn’t recovered …..

Number of bookcases you own!
One bookcase, one shelf, one floating bookshelf and the top of my wardrobe! I have a small room so I have to think of clever ways to fit all my books!

One book you have read multiple times!
I’ve read The Knife Of Never Letting Go, several times. But I’m not much of a re-reader honestly.

Preferred place to read!
Anywhere comfortable, but I love reading in trees!

Quote that inspires you/ gives you all the feels from a book you’ve read!
Anything by Cassie (The woman is a Goddess) but really ‘The Noise is man unfiltered, and without a filter man is just Chaos Walking’. That will be tattooed on me!

Reading Regret!
Not being more adventurous with reading at an earlier age. I was a single minded reading until I was about 12.

Series you’ve started and need to finish (all the books are released)!
